A complete, shorthand solution (where "1*" means hold down 1 until the conversation ends), from the beginning:

Talk to the elder.
In the pub:

Fight in the Western Road until the first cutscene.
Talk to the elder.
Fight in the Graveyard until the first cutscene.
Clear the Western Road (until you get "zone complete!").
Then in the pub, press these buttons:
